Jimbaran curves around a wide, sheltered bay on the west side of the Bukit peninsula, between the airport and the clifftop venues further south at Uluwatu. Venues here sit either directly on the bay — beachfront resorts facing calm water rather than open ocean swell — or up in the foothills behind it, looking down over the bay from height. The bay itself gives the area a different feel from the exposed cliff coast nearby: flatter water, a working fishing harbour at one end, and a longer stretch of open beach.
